3 TIPS FOR MERGING
by Robyn Bentley
(MP3 audio version)
Summer is the most popular wedding season and the busiest time of year for moving.  Lots of couples are moving in together. It's not easy for couples to squeeze two households into one.  Moving is brutal, backbreaking work and can put a damper on your relationship but a little precision pre-planning can make the all pieces fit together easier.

ONE: INVENTORY YOUR STUFF
Don't try to organize things in your head - write it down. Each partner should make a written inventory of their stuff and divide it into two catagories: "must keep" and "can live without".   Compare your lists and decide what you'll keep, what you'll toss and what you need to buy.

TWO:  MEASURE ALL ROOMS & FURNITURE
Get some grid/graph paper and measure and draw your floor plan and make cutouts of your furniture.  Instead of breaking your back moving the furniture around the room to see if it fits,  move the cutouts around the floor plan.  Then you'll have fewer surprises on moving day and less stress.

THREE: MERGE PURGE
Purge and organize your closets, dressers and bathrooms to make space for two.  You'll be amazed at how much stuff you have that you don't really need.

DO THESE THINGS BEFORE YOU MOVE IN TOGETHER TO MAKE MOVING DAY LESS STRESSFUL.
